Five for Friday

Hope everyone had a fantastic 4th of July! I took a few days to disconnect from everything and enjoy time with friends and family... it was so nice! My phone was left in the house and my computer never saw the light of day - and I didn't even mind! Some face-to-face connecting with the important people in my life was much more beneficial than any Facebook post, tweet, or blog post will ever be. It's nice to be reminded of that some times.

Since it's been a while, let's do this:

Five for Friday

1. I started my Independence Day by doing something crazy.... I RAN 10 MILES. Yes, you read that correctly. I broke the single-digit barrier and had my first-ever double-digit run. It was a beautiful thing. By beautiful, I mean sweaty, labored, huffing-and-puffing, just-need-to-finish.... tomato, to-mah-to. Right? Internet high-fives to Suzann and Lindsey for getting out there with me and pushing through while I did something I needed to do... (Suzann, you da best. Lindsey, you're crazy - can't believe you just hopped up and did that! Show off.) It was a great way to kick-start the holiday... pretty sure I earned myself a few celebratory beers with that one!
Not from after the 10 miles, but post-workout on Tuesday... forgive the mascara. SO SWEATY.
Boom.

2. Speaking of beers... I need to detox in a SERIOUS way. The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays, and I LOVE all the summery foods that come along with it - pulled pork BBQ, potato salad, coleslaw, watermelon, cookies, beers, chips and salsa... all things delicious. However, I definitely over-indulged a bit, and I can practically hear my body calling for water and produce. Needless to say, I'll be eating a pretty garden-fresh diet for the next few days. Anyone else feeling the post-holiday food hangover?

3. You may have noticed and/or I may have harassed you about it already, but GUESS WHAT?! (Are you guessing?... I'll wait.) (OK, long enough.) Typically Late is on Facebook! YAY! Check it out here OR just take a look at the nifty little gadget on the right-hand side of my site, and you can "like" the page right from there! So easy. So simple. So social-media savvy.

4. I managed to spend two days out in the sun by the pool for hours at a time and did not get sunburned. If you know me in real life, you know this is a miraculous feat. SPF 50, I owe you.
MySpace picture by the pool. I have a "tan" in this photo. Promise!
This picture doesn't show it, but the boys played some serious pool basketball. It gets intense.
5. Mac the Cat has really come a long ways since his initial days living at our house. He's really starting to let his little personality (/craziness) show, even though we've only had him for ~8 weeks. We're becoming best friends. Really... C took this picture this other night. Yes, we are snuggling sleeping. Don't judge. #crazycatlady

The other day I found him like this:

Yes, his head is all the way through the blinds. Apparently he couldn't see as well as he wanted to...
~~~~~
That's all I've got. Anyone else in need of serious detox time and some hard workouts to make up for Independence Day splurges? Send your best intense workouts my way - I'm looking to change it up a bit and challenge myself for a few days! What have ya got??
Congratulations on breaking double-digits!! That is quite the accomplishment and I hope that I am able to do the same in a few weeks.
The only thing I can think of for you to try to challenge yourself in your workouts is BodyStep. Seriously. Go with the double risers for extra burn!
Awesome! I did my first 10 miler a few weeks back and I was high as a kite. I will be working my way back up there after my injury. Just be careful and don't hurt yourself! Not running is depressing.
It was such a rush! And something I needed to prove to myself that I could do - once I crossed that line, there's no going back! I'll be doing a half before I know it :)
Thanks! Take your time - I've spent months working my way up there. Have to treat the legs with care :)
I want to try BodyStep! It's one of the only classes I've never taken. Seems like fun, but never seems to work into my schedule. Sigh.
Great job on the double digits! Woo-hoo! You won't like the feel of lower milage runs anymore. I think you might be doing a full marathon sooner than you think!
Thank you!! It felt surprisingly good, and I felt amazing when I was done! I think I've officially upped the date of my first half, now that I really feel I can do the longer distances. Not sure about the full marathon though... Scary! :)
